Casting Complete on Sixth 'Harry Potter' Film

Warner Bros. has announced that casting for the sixth Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, is complete.

New cast members for the sixth installment, based on the best-selling novel by J.K. Rowling, include Jim Broadbent and Helen McCrory. Broadbent will play, Horace Slughorn, the new potions professor who gives Harry Potter an old Potions textbook that had once belonged to the a former student known only as "The Half-Blood Prince." McCrory, who was originally cast to play Bellatrix Lestrange in the fifth film, but had to bow out after she became pregnant, appears in the sixth film as Narcissa Malfoy, mother to Draco, wife to Lucius, and sister to the wicked Bellatrix Lestrange (Helena Bonham Carter)...continue reading this article at Geeks of Doom!

'The Other Boleyn Girl' Trailer

AOL Movies has posted the first trailer for The Other Boleyn Girl, starring Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson, and Eric Bana.

In the movie, based on the best-selling historical fiction novel by Philippa Gregory, Portman plays Anne Boleyn, the famously beheaded wife of King Henry VIII (played by Bana) and mother of Queen Elizabeth I. New 'Ghostbusters' Videogame Franchise

Looks like the next Ghostbusters project will be in the form of a videogame!

Vivendi Games and Sony Pictures are working on creating a Ghostbusters videogame franchise, the first game of which will be released by Vivendi's Sierra label in Fall of 2008, according to Variety.

Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Bill Murray, and Harold Ramis, who starred in the two Ghostbusters films in 1984 and 1989 respectively, will give their voice and likeness rights for the game. Eleven Questions with T.E. Pouncey: Mono

(because ten questions aren't enough -- and who has time to read twelve?)

Mono AKA: SiMONOke, AKA: Cbleek is a mysterious Dutch artist, creator of the comic Crackhead Angel (about drug addiction in a group of supermodels), a techno-mix musician, and single working mom.

Born in 1974, Mono won a painting contest in 1986 (at the age of 12) sponsored by the Museum of Resistance (the theme of the contest was "Freedom"). In 1992, Mono attended the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam after high school graduation and was admitted to Art School.

"My first year (of) Art school was in 1992 and was chaotic but life changing," she said. "Hanging out in the Storm gallery, a squat where I first came in contact with the traveller/tekno party scene. I switched from Rotterdam to the prestigious Art institute in Dusseldorf, and joined my mentor (and boyfriend) Ulrich Lamsfuss, there as an infiltrant (an unregistered student) in weekends and holidays."

Confessing almost right away that she was not an "official" student, Mono, much to her surprise, was accepted as a temporary student.

"I could work there whenever I wanted," she said. " The relationship ended but those busy months of peddling between Rotterdam and Dusseldorf were fruitful for not only could I develop my own style and vision in my own time , it also lead to changes in the way Rotterdam academy approaches their students today."

Mono is also working on a children's book: "Libbie, stories about a serious old child" (written in Dutch), and various other projects. Her work can be viewed at her official site and on her MySpace profile.

GoD Geeks Gear Up For 'Beowulf'

For months now, a bunch of us here at Geeks of Doom have been chatting it up together about the highly anticipated Robert Zemeckis-directed feature film Beowulf, which hits IMAX 3D, digital, and conventional theaters everywhere tomorrow (with select showings tonight).

The performance-capture film has a script by Neil Gaiman and Roger Avary based on the Old English poem and stars Ray Winstone, Anthony Hopkins, John Malkovich, Robin Wright Penn, Brendan Gleeson, Crispin Glover, Alison Lohman, and Angelina Jolie.

LOS ANGELES, CA, Nov. 14 -- IMAX Corporation (NASDAQ:IMAX; TSX:IMX) and DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc. (NYSE:DWA) today announced an agreement to release the studio's first three 3D motion pictures worldwide in IMAX(R) 3D. The IMAX 3D releases will include Monsters vs. Aliens in March 2009, How to Train Your Dragon in November 2009 and Shrek Goes Forth in May 2010. A fourth DreamWorks Animation title, Kung Fu Panda, will be released in IMAX's 2D format in June 2008. The IMAX 3D titles are expected to be among the first presented with IMAX's digital 3D projection system, which is scheduled to be launched beginning June 2008. Weekly Comic Book Pulls for 11-07-07

Criminal #10
If you're looking for a book to get your non-comic reading friends interested in comics, give them this book. Smart, gritty, exciting, dark, suspenseful. It's any interesting crime movie you've ever seen done in comic form. Brubaker is doing things in this book that you've seen a million times before, but he does it with such skill you never even notice. You know exactly what is going to happen, but it's fun to watch the pieces fall into place. It's also good because it feels like a full meal of a book, and I never feel like I was paying too much for too little of a book. Sean Phillip's art sets the perfect mood and he is a modern master at creating expressive characters. The back matter of the book has covered so many different topics and I'm never sure what to expect. This issue ends the “Lawless” arc in a bit of a surprising way, and I can’t wait to see the next few issues. February is too long to wait.

Shoot the cheerleader, save my Monday nights

So I'm giving up on Heroes. It was fun to start with, but it was a good 24-episode idea that has gone on way too long. Veronica Mars couldn't save it, low ratings and a writer's strike pre-empted the doom of the spin-off series Heroes: Origins before it could begin production, and even creator Tim Kring publicly apologized for his wrongdoings.
