Henry and Butcher #1
Story: Gonzalo Ventura
Art and Letters: Martin Blanco
Pit Bros. Productions
Locked in a madhouse, an ex-boxer and ex-muscle for the mob named Henry once again tries to piece together what he remembers was his last night of freedom before he was put away. He recalls his night out with his friends having beers, where he once again tells the story about how his friends and wife made his life right. He recalls a drunken drive home, where he crashes his car, and stumbles home only to discover another family living there. And he recalls his dog, Butcher, talking to him and telling him that there is a way back to his normal life. Things are looking pretty bleak for Henry, but if he can avoid the lunacy that even a sane man will contract from being stuck in a padded cell, he may just figure out what the hell has happened to him.
"I loved my wife." This is the opening downer of a line that writer Gonzalo Ventura, co-founder of Pit Bros. Productions, begins this sprawling and hard-edged story with. From here, Ventura leaps to flashbacks and flashbacks-within-flashbacks to unfold a gritty and maddening story that would have made a great first chapter in a sleazy, cheaply-printed paperback. His use of time-hopping emphasizes...continue reading this article at Geeks of Doom

Music Review: Bad Brains 'Build A Nation'
BAD BRAINS
Build A Nation (2007)
Megaforce Records
Produced by Adam Yauch
D.C punk/hardcore legends Bad Brains are back, after having broken up and reunited more times than an entire season of VH1's Behind the Music.
Adam Yauch (Beastie Boys) is credited with producing the first studio album by the band in over ten years. Although the production of Build A Nation is more realized than its predecessor (1995's God Of Love), it still lacks the raw power of the group's legendary back catalog...continue reading this review at Geeks of Doom

Movie Review: Transformers
"Michael Bay, please don't destroy my childhood."
That was the predominant thought in my mind as the theater darkened and the ubiquitous husky timbre of Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen) began his voice-over. You're familiar with Transformers. You know the deal. Two opposing sects of giant robots from the planet Cybertron, who have the ability to change into vehicles, are warring over energy with Earth as their battleground. I'll do you a solid courtesy by saving you from my rant-o-rific fanboy spiel but make no mistake, Transformers were a big part of my childhood -- like Pokémon/Magic Cards/Naruto big -- so you can imagine my apprehension.
Going into this viewing, I was thinking how I just couldn't take yet another mediocre film making a mockery of my adolescent ardor, but let's be honest here, at this point so long as the effects held-up and there's no impromptu dance sequences, I would probably just give it the nod. After the long line of dreck Hollywood has insulted us with this summer, Transformers could be nothing more than a dozen rounds of CGI'd automatons beating the crap out of each other and most people would call it the tits...continue reading this review at Geeks of Doom

'Elizabeth: The Golden Age' Trailer
The trailer for Elizabeth: The Golden Age is now online.
The sequel to 1998's Elizabeth will see the return of director Shekhar Kapur and star Cate Blanchett as the 16th century "Virgin Queen" of England. This installment, delves into the romantic relationship between Queen Elizabeth I and the explorer Sir Walter Raleigh (Clive Owen).
It also introduces the Queen's cousin Mary Queen of Scots (played by Minority Report's Samantha Morton), who plots with Philip of Spain to usurp the throne from her. Geoffrey Rush returns as Sir Francis Walsingham, Elizabeth's trusted advisor.
Elizabeth had beautiful cinematography, strong acting, and the beauty (and ugliness) of Elizabethan life in all of its pomp and circumstance, though some historical inaccuracies were distracting. From this trailer, it looks like The Golden Age will be much like its predecessor.
Elizabeth: The Golden Age will open in theaters this Fall.

Movie Review: Live Free or Die Hard
Wa-wa-wee-wa! - Borat
Borat!: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan
The quote obviously is talking about Len Wiseman, where he could possibly go from making one of the shittiest film franchises, to a good Die Hard film. Wiseman gets my respect on two levels. The first being the big leap. The second one being successful.
Live Free or Die Hard is totally out of league from the previous installments. Of course, do you really think we can go back twelve years ago and start from where it ended? No. We have a balder Bruce, computer hackers, and more advanced guns. And Kevin Smith. Now tell me, where the fuck can you go wrong with this? I'll tell you.
You can't.
Bruce Willis reprises his role as John McClane, the badass old New York cop who is now watching out for his daughter a bit too much. McClane is called to take computer hacker and geek Matt Ferrell and drive him down to Washington D.C. And like always, McClane gets himself into some deep shit, while walking in on Ferrell right before he is targeted by terrorists. And just like that, the action begins. And no, it doesn't stop. McClane finds out that computer hackers Gabriel and Mai are the ones that are causing it. And once Gabriel kidnaps McClane's daughter ... it is soooo fucking on...continue reading this review at Geeks of Doom
