'Reservation Road' Trailer
Weekly Comic Book Pulls for 8-15-07
The big story with this issue is of course the change in artists. Stuart Immonen takes over with this issue, and I hope he stays around for a long time. His art is different from Bagley’s, that’s no doubt, but it keeps the same level of excitement and action. As with Bagley, Immonen does a good job of making the teenagers look like teenagers and not short adults. The story deals with another return of Norman Osborne as he makes his escape. The bulk of the story deals with continuing the Peter-Mary Jane-Kitty triangle as they get entangled with that most classic of sitcom situations, the take care of a baby assignment. (Which does anyone actually do, or is this something that just happens to T.V. characters?) It’s a cliché, but Bendis makes it work for him, as his characters always ring true. The change of art is not as jarring with Bendis behind the typewriter, as the characters voices haven’t changed, just the way they look. Comic Review: X-Men: Supernovas

This is part 2 of my delving back into the X-Men universe, and I have to say I didn’t like it quite as much as Ed Brubaker’s epic, but it’s still fairly decent. It tells a different kind of X-Men story, more spandex and super-villains than space adventure, and does itself credit by following a different trail than Uncanny X-Men. Mike Carey is telling a more conventional X-Men story, and does a decent, but not great job.
This book has the first three story arcs of Carey’s run (issues 188-199), along with this year's X-men annual. The first arc deals with the team coming together and dealing with the Children of the Vault. They’re kind of a mix of Grant Morrison’s Weapon X concept and Chris Claremont’s Neo concept, basically humans who have been in a time compression chamber and have advanced weaponry and technology, and possibly some powers. I don’t know, as it’s not terribly well explained. They’re fairly generic stock villains, and they don’t leave much of an impression. The story brings the team of Rogue, Iceman, Cannonball, Cable, an Omega Sentinel, Mystique, Lady Mastermind, and Sabertooth together in an organic way and it creates a nice dynamic with the heroes not really trusting the villains. DVD Review: House M.D. Season 3
The show centers around Dr. Gregory House, played wonderfully by Hugh Laurie, a brilliant infectious disease specialist with a not-so-great bedside manner. Dr. House, who leads a team of young doctors at Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital, typically uses unconventional methods to solve the most allusive of medical mysteries.
Watching Season Three, which included guest appearances by Kathleen Quinlan, Joel Grey, John Larroquette, Charles S. Dutton, and Dave Matthews, left me wanting Season Four to start right away. It is an emotional rollercoaster for the characters and the audience. All of the storylines are interesting and fantastically written. Hugh Laurie is phenomenal as Dr. House. The supporting cast -- Lisa Edelstein, Robert Sean Leonard, Jennifer Morrison, Omar Epps, and Jesse Spencer -- has made me cry at some point in every episode. Writer and CEO of Approbation Comics Bart A. Thompson returns for a second go-around of short anthology horror stories with a different artist penciling each story. This time around, Thompson strays a bit from the Tales From The Crypt dark-humored twists, and though each story retains a "gotcha" ending, his artists decide to all but abandoned any thematic linking the EC Comics art style.
In "Identity," a young man awakens in an alley, unaware of who he is and why he is beat up, but senses that there is someone after him. As he makes his way out of the alleyways, he comes across an equally beaten young woman, who is shaken by whoever attacked her. The amnesiac takes the woman, practically by force, back to a familiar building to both defend her and protect himself. But as he makes his way through the building, fragmented memories begin to needle him in the back of his mind. Movie Review: The Invasion
A shuttle crash brings with it an alien parasite that enters the human population. While Oliver is visiting his father, he and Carol get separated and Carol has to try to find him in the middle of the outbreak. Spike 'Murder's Reality TV
Murder is hosted by Detective Tommy Le Noir, a 27-year Arlington, Texas, decorated law enforcement veteran who garnered his fair share of murder convictions. Each show starts with Le Noir escorting the two teams into an exact replica crime scene pulled from the files of a solved homicide case. These gruesomely recreated crime scenes come complete with the murder victim's corpse, which looks like it came straight from Tom Savini's closet. They're given actual crime scene footage from the closed case, a list of potential suspects, an opportunity to analyze orginal suspect interrogation tapes, and then they get to sit in on a recreated autopsy with a real pathologist who reviews the findings of the original autopsy report with them...continue reading this article at Geeks of Doom!

‘Superbad’ - The Film Maniac Perspective
Yes, I said it. If we had Superbad ten years ago, we wouldn’t have had a film like American Pie, and I know for a fact that Superbad made me laugh a lot more than American Pie did. What we have here is not just a funny movie, but a smart movie at that, with a lesson that packs a punch. You don’t know what you are getting yourself into while watching this movie. It’s about as raunchy as Animal House and as smart as Knocked Up.
Like American Graffiti and Dazed and Confused, Superbad takes place on a single day. Our characters are Evan, a guy so shy who never gets noticed by girls, and Seth, a fat kid that reminds me a lot of Cartman from South Park, but more perverted and more wanting for sex. Seth’s love interest, Jules, is throwing this big party that night while her parents are out of the town. Seth offers to buy beer for the party, and sets his plan in full motion. Hardware Review: Logitech Z-5500 5.1 Digital Surround Sound Speaker System
At the time I had a modest Logitech analog system, which was good, but I wanted more. For a few years the Logitech Z-5500 Digital speaker system caught my eye, but the price was just a bit too high, and I just couldn't justify the close to $400 price ticket for a second sound system. But now that this was going to be my main (and only), system, I decided to take the plunge.
I purchased the system through Dell for $278.95, and say what you want about Dell, they were the best choice when it came to this item as they had very reasonable shipping ($22.32), and this was a VERY heavy item (somewhere around 40 or more pounds). Another positive thing I found with Dell is they have a very fast delivery time.
