There are a few ways to tell a director of a film is too cool for the room. As you can see, accompanying this review is the DVD art for The Hunting Party. Also, I asked if the DVD art for Richard Shepard’s previous film, 2005’s The Matador, could also be displayed. Now both are wonderful films, dark comedies of the highest order. But you couldn’t tell that just from looking at these two pieces of advertisement. They kinda look like they went to SpikeTV before they went to video, don’t they? I remember the first time I was obsessed with music. Back in 2000, the one artist that I always wanted to be like was Eminem. Back then, I thought he was an amazing musician. I didn’t know what the hell he was talking about in his songs, but it didn’t matter. His rap songs had some funky beats and made my head bounce the entire time I was listening to it. “The Real Slim Shady” was played so many times in my cassette player that I still know the lyrics right now. Movie Review: The Brave One

Erica Bain (Jodie Foster) and her fiancé David (Naveen Andrews) are like two peas in a pod. She does a show on a New York talk radio station and he is a doctor. They are blissfully in love and planning their wedding. They fake-cute argue over things like invitations and what type of wedding they should have. On a walk through Central Park one night with their dog, they are brutally attacked. She is beaten within an inch of her life, and him six inches further. She wakes from her coma three weeks later to find that David’s funeral has already been held and she is left with nothing to do but pick up the pieces and try to move on.

Going into this movie seemed like dangerous ground to tread so soon after seeing Death Sentence just two weeks ago. Another movie about an average Joe turned vigilante killer after the death of their (blank)? And even if there will always be a spot reserved in my movie loving heart for her because of Silence of the Lambs, Foster kind of fell off the map for me some time ago.
