Oh how I love Marvel's "Essential" line. Nowhere else can I get so much enjoyment for so little money -- 16 bucks for around 500 pages in each volume just can't be beat. The best thing is it allows me to catch up on a lot of classics that I was not around to buy the first time and are now too expensive to buy or too tough to track down. Take Moon Knight, for example. On its own, I probably wouldn't track down the old issues, but slap it in an Essential volume and I'm on it like white on rice. If your only exposure to the Moon Knight character is his recent revival by Charlie Huston, don't let that confusing story drive you off. What is collected here is a lot of gritty but fun superhero stories starring one of the most interesting characters Marvel has, drawn by a modern master, and written by someone who really understands the character...continue reading this review at Geeks of Doom!

DC/Vertigo has created a free online comic book that serves as a prequel to the upcoming Warner Bros. film, I Am Legend, which sees a deadly virus leave one human survivor on Earth (Will Smith starring as Robert Neville) amongst a newly formed race of humans-turned-vampire/zombies.

There are four issues in the online series, titled I Am Legend: Awakening, set in the world of Richard Matheson's 1954 novel I Am Legend and told through the experiences of some of the earlier survivors before the introduction of Robert Neville. Just saying the name out loud, it... well, it makes me scratch my head and google the damn thing because I’ve never really known how to pronounce it.

Bill Sienkiewicz (that’s “sin-KEV-itch” for the google-impaired) is a legend within the comics medium. His work on Marvel’s New Mutants in the early ’80s, followed by his groundbreaking work on Elektra: Assassin has pretty much cemented him in the comic book art hall of fame (should such a thing ever exist) as one of the most influential talents of our lifetime.
